Crowcons Triple Plus+ IR is
designed to protect personnel against a range of hazardous gases, Crowcon’s
Triple Plus+ portable gas detector can now be used to monitor container
purging on board oil and gas carriers. In addition to user-selected
sensors for oxygen and toxic gas monitoring, the new Triple Plus+ IR
incorporates a durable infrared (IR) sensor for flammable hydrocarbons.
Unaffected by extreme hydrocarbon levels and able to work in zero-oxygen
conditions, the IR sensor reliably monitors the atmosphere within a
container while it is purged with inert gas, indicating when it is safe
to open the vessel to air.
Incorporating the latest infrared detection technology Triple Plus +
IR extends the capability of the established Triple Plus range to measurement
of hydrocarbons in inert backgrounds at both % volume and % LEL levels
for tank purging and inert atmosphere monitoring, and is available in
single or dual range configuration. The infrared sensor is equally suitable
for detection of hydrocarbons in air for confined space entry and other
safety applications.
The IGC* code requires all ships carrying liquefied
gases in bulk to carry at least two portable gas detectors suitable
to the hazards on board. Able to monitor up to four gases simultaneously,
Triple Plus+ IR allows operators to meet this need, and has type approval
from both Lloyds Register and the American Bureau of Shipping.
*IGC = the IMO Code for Construction & Equipment
of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk, mandatory under the SOLAS
conventions
Shock-resistant and sealed to IP65, Triple Plus+ IR
is housed in a shatterproof polyamide/ABS casing. It is highly unusual
in being able to float, allowing the instrument to be recovered in full
working order if dropped in standing water or overboard.
Users can specify one of three flammable gas sensing
options. An instrument covering 0-100% of the lower explosive limit
is available for general safety monitoring, while a version measuring
gas by volume from 0-100% is offered for high-level applications like
purge monitoring. For optimum flexibility, both ranges can be specified
in one unit. Up to three additional sensors (or two for monitors with
both the flammable ranges) can then be specified for other gases, including
oxygen, hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide.
