Bibby Scientific SR-100 Venturi Fume Scrubber
This product is now obsolete.
The Bibby Scientific Venturi Fume Scrubber is designed
to remove water soluble constituents in the
effluent gasses from Bibby Scientific Industrial Fluidised
baths which would not be removed in the
optional Afterburner. The unit is designed to
reduce concentrations of Hydrogen Halides
(Chloride and Fluoride) produced by the
decomposition of Halogenated polymers such as
PVC and PTFE.
The SR-100 unit is designed to remove 95% of
HCL in the exhaust gas so that as long as the
scrubber is not overloaded by burning off too
large a quantity of PVC the emerging gasses will
contain a quantity of HCL low enough to be
safely vented to the atmosphere. The unit
operates by passing the scrubbing liquid
through a nozzle which produces a hollow
conical spray in the venture section. The nozzle
and venture section are designed so that for a
given quantity of scrubbing liquid, the maximum
absorbing surface area of liquid is presented to
the gas.
Additionally the action of the spray produces a
motive force sufficient to induce the gas into the
scrubber, thereby reducing the overall unit
pressure drop. The gas and spray mixture then
enters the separator / liquid storage vessel
where the scrubbing liquid and its absorbed
acidic contaminants are separated from the
cleaned gas by centrifugal force. The clean air
then passes through a demister section to
remove the remaining droplets.
Scrubbing liquid is re-circulated through the
system and clean make up water or caustic
solution is added in accordance with the
quantity of noxious elements absorbed.
It is recommended that a Bibby Scientific Cyclone be
fitted before the scrubber to avoid unnecessary
loss of medium and loading of scrubber with
particulates.
