The Model 3205 Ion Meter is designed and constructed to resist the harshest of field, laboratory and industrial environments. The whole system is waterproof to IP67, and if dropped into water will float. The Model 3205 and its associated accessories provide a system which is dedicated to the rapid, easy and reliable determinations of five ions, (ammonium, calcium, chloride, fluoride and nitrate), which are of particular interest to those involved in water analysis and environmental testing. Additional ions can be measured as millivolt readings.

The instrument software guides the user through calibration and measurement routines via the menu based operating system and provides a direct readout of results in concentration units chosen by the user. Concentration levels of the 5 dedicated ions can be displayed as mg/l, ppm, %, moles, activity and none.

Key difficulties associated with portable ion analysis are the errors introduced when the temperature of calibration standards are at a different temperature to the solution under test. The combination electrodes offered have very predicatable temperature characteristics and it has been possible to incorporate automatic temperature compensation algorithms into the software. The appropriate ATC parameters are automatically selected when a dedicated ion analysis mode is seletced. This characteristic, in conjunction with very stable electrode signals, enables calibration to take place in the laboratory prior to field analysis. It is possible to use the 3205 with other commercially available ion selective electrodes, but these benefits will not be available.

Power is provided by 3AA size batteries giving typically 100 hours of use. An operator selectable auto shut-off feature ensures battery life is maximised. Automatic low battery warning is given when remaining battery life is approximately 5 hours (@ 20°C).

High quality waterproof connectors (to IP67) allow rapid interchangeability of electrodes, whilst maintaining waterproof integrity. The connector incorporates a locking ring to guard against accidental disconnection or ingress of moisture.

Whilst customised for dedicated ion analysis, the 3205 also retains the capability for routine determinations of pH, mV and other non-dedicated ions.
