The Model 4200 Conductivity/TDS Meter is designed and constructed to resist the harshest of field, laboratory and industrial environments. The whole system is waterproof to IP67, and if dropped into water will float. These products are ideal for on-site water quality measurement in a multitude of customer applications.

The measuring range from 0 to 199.9mS is covered by 5 automatically switched ranges using a single cell. Additionally, the in-built software is able to calculate and report results as TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in mg/l; Salinity in g/l or Resistivity in Mohms. In the TDS mode the 4200 allows a variable factor to be applied to the measured conductivity value.

The unique measuring cell is designed to cope with the harsh environments encountered in many field situations. Carefully configured solid state four plate construction guarantees a linear response over a wide conductivity range, whilst minimising the effects of electrode fouling.

Standardisation is performed by entering the cell constant value (from 0.015 to 19.99) when a cell of known constant is being used. Alternatively, a calibration can be executed using a solution of known conductivity by entering its value via the set-up menu. A single point calibration automatically updates and displays the cell constant value. Where measurements are to be made over a wide conductivity range and close accuracy is of importance, the 4200 offers 2 or 3 point calibration.

Temperature coefficient can be directly entered through the set-up menu. Values between 0 and 4.00%/°C are available. In addition, a pure water mode (to BSEN 27880/DIN 38404) enacts the non-linear temperature coefficient characteristics associated with low conductivity water. The precision temperature sensing element built into the cell will correct for temperature effects between 0 and 100°C and will measure the temperature displayed in either °C or °F.

High quality waterproof connectors (to IP67) allow rapid interchangeability of electrodes, whilst maintaining waterproof integrity. The connector incorporates a locking ring to guard against accidental disconnection or ingress of moisture.

Power is provided by 3AA size batteries giving typically 100 hours of use. An operator selectable auto shut-off feature ensures battery life is maximised. Automatic low battery warning is given when remaining battery life is approximately 5 hours (@ 20°C).
